Situated on the Fira Caldera, Orama is a new five star hotel. Due to its position in the crown of the rock and the steep slope of the ground, it is organized on three levels and its view extends from Thirasia to Anafi.
The primary challenge of the project was the management of the pre-existing imposing building volume of five buildings that are developed in 12,000m2 environments, their harmonization with the scale and organization of the architectural tradition of the island and the service of the modern needs of the unit.

Stone walls made of black volcanic stone, run through the surrounding area and curve organically to define the levels and water surfaces, to protect from the north wind, to direct the movements and to organize the common areas.
The walls themselves create facades, gentle stairs and smaller courtyards, patios and courtyards for the rooms and the spa. The standing and recreation areas are shaded by olives, mulberries and pergolas made of wood or sails, while for the planting that surrounds them, Mediterranean-resistant phrygana, shrubs and aromatics have been selected.

In the interior, the spaces are carved based on the plasticity and the removal of the traditional architecture and the use of natural rough materials. The Cycladic austerity and the natural light are enriched with the colors of the rocks of the island, intense black and bronze to highlight the organicity and the materiality of the forms.
Craftsmen in Santorini and Athens created lighting and decorative objects from red clay, engraved wood and painted fabrics for the stationary and mobile equipment of the project, which was supplemented with selected elements by Mediterranean craftsmen and artists.
